Back again! Lets get to it.
one out of five smileys!
The Short Story
pros:
- Should have been great. It really should have.
cons:
- Glitches...lots of glitches. some game breaking.
-a combat setup that is more a headache then revolutionary.
-Infuriatingly hard in the beginning...and a pot in the face in later levels.
The Good
Well, it honestly should have been awesome. they had just about everything on a conceptual side, plenty of character customization, a newish type of fantasy realm, fast paced action that requires a lot of knee jerk reactions to make it out on top, and a challenging slope of difficulty.
Oh did I mention you get to turn into a dragon? I know, once I say that it makes most hardcore gamers groan because nearly any game that tried to incorporate something like it has fell face first trying. But actually, this games dragon controls are very tight, easy and are very visually pleasing...but,
The Bad
-The rest of the game falls short. There's a morale system, but it offers no rewards or consequences for either side you choose. There's weapon combat, but it almost feels like your weapons arnt even hitting the enemies until they fall over dead. There's magic and bows, but they both require you to use a very clunky and poorly responsive reticule instead of many other dungeon crawlers like...well, dragon age. You also get your own home, a very nice touch, your own skilled servants that can do a variety of things for you...but only more then halfway through the game.
-Then just to top the cake of break even features, you can read others minds, but at the cost of a experience debt. Note not a experience cost, but a debt that you have to pay off before you even get more experience towards your next level, making mind reading near impossible in the beginning. That is if your not already beating your head into your nearest coffee table due to the normal difficulty.
-But, the game breaker, the glitches, there are harmless ones like treasure bags floating around next to you, to things like after you die and try to reload, you are occasionaly stuck in a endless loop of deaths, which cuase you to have to restart...or if you try and load a autosave, sometimes you wont spawn at that autosave but at a different one further back, which then auto saves over your further on autosave...its one thing to make the game hard, but that's ridiculous.
The Ugly
What can I say that hasn't been said. So much potential, only to fall short, in fact, it got one smiley based only on the really smooth dragon combat.
