my contest idea - have a competition with a game that is similar in playing style to this one - and the winner takes the key.

Ooo I would love to participate I like Dee's idea. Lets have an RTS competition. We could set it up where everyone partners off in 1v1 and then the winners of those partner off 1v1 etc until we get an overall winner. At least I think that would be the fair way to do it.

A SC contest for it might be a good idea, only problem i have with it is that original starcraft is very mechanical, (You mass this to beat this and so on.) So maybe a game that actually requires you to have a tactical mind might be better. Plus it doesnt really display the level of thinking needed for 2.

That being said I want it known I actually dont want either of the beta keys, (I have the broken SC2 beta so Im set enough until release.)

Also a tourney would be a good idea. But! i dont know but how long is the starcraft beta? how will it be monitored? will it be monitored? how will it be recorded...

All questions that require some time to answer and all of which means time ticked off the beta. I say you just lotto them off to the regulars. Fair, fast, that way those that want to be active in the beta can be as quickly as possible.

OR on the alternative, give them to the two most dedicated of the clan, display the fact that the clan honors those that contribute the most. show that the clan rewards contributions with more then praise.

There isn't really a way to give it to the most dedicated of the clan because those two people would be higher ups. I was thinking more like registering both the keys to an e-mail address and letting them be "community" accounts to share between clan members, at this rate it doesn't seem like enough people give a shit to actually hold a contest so I would probably just give it to Draco and Maple and make them share a damn account with anyone else who wants to try it out.
