IRC or internet chat relay is pretty much just a chat room. You usually need a client (
trillian,
mIRC, and
Pidgin are just a few)

mIRC isn't free so we may host the link soon, Also i recommend trillian if you want to hear when a message comes in
To register your nickname (example: mines surj08). Log in with that name (I use the same name for my nickname and logon when making the properties to connect to the server) and then issue the command "/msg nickserv
register password email" without the quotes. Where Password = what ever you want the password to be. and Email is your email (make sure its valid).
When you enter a room you will want to "log in" do this by issuing the command "/msg nickserv identify
password" without the quotes. Then issue the command "/hop" without the quotes, It will rejoin you with the new permissions!
A few basic commands:
/me Throws a fish
What it displays:
Surj08 throws a fish
/msg
username Hello
What it does:
Private chat with the username specified with the message Hello
/nick
Name
What it does:
Change your nickname to the Name provided
/chat
username
What it does:
Opens a chat with the username specified. DO NOT accept chat invites from people you don't know!! File transfers and other things may be done through chat. Chat will stay open when the server shuts down!
/help
What it does:
Helps you
