Here at YouJustLost.com we like to play together (if you know what I mean

)
but in order to do that with some of the games we acquire we need to setup
virtual local area networks.
So to start we'll get introduced to the program called Hamachi. Hamachi is a zero-config
VPN program made by LogMeIn Inc. It works behind NAT so you don't need to forward
ports on your router. LogMeIn is compiled for almost every operating system there is however
I'm only going to provide a how-to for Windows users. The first install of Hamachi on a computer
allows you a one month free trial to Hamachi premium, just accept it and you can downgrade
once it runs out. However there are many more uses for Hamachi other than just playing games,
you can also use it to transfer data between two computers like a peer-to-peer network.
How to connect to the YJL Hamachi server:
- First go to the corresponding download site for your operating system.
- Once downloaded, install the program for your operating system. If prompted for anything
just click next, feel free to enable the "Block Vulnerable Windows Services" if you want to.
If this gives you a problem when trying to connect with someone you can disable it later.
- After the installation it should automatically launch the program and give you a tutorial on
how to work the basics of Hamachi, your name on Hamachi is the name of your computer.
- After the tutorial you should click the three ball triangle second from the right which will pop-up
a menu, choose "Join an existing network" and once prompted to enter the network name and password use:
Network Name: YouJustLost.com *This is case sensitive*
Network Pass: thegame
- Now you're all done! Once you've done this in order to play games together use the LAN option
when playing with each other. If you ever need any help feel free to ask an administrator to help
you with this and we'll try our best to assist you.
Advanced Setup:
Sometimes games have anti-VPN built into the code so you have to have a workaround to bypass it.
One way to do this is to use an older version of Hamachi, older versions of programs lack support for
newer operating systems so this
might not work for you Windows 7 and Windows Vista users.
The first step to advanced troubleshooting is to download and install the older version of Hamachi
which is obtained through Filehippo at
this link.
- After "updating" the currently installed version of Hamachi go to the Start Menu and right-click My Network Places
and select properties, if My Network Places is not on your Start Menu go to Control Panel and double-click
network connections.
- Once inside the Network Connections window go to advanced in the toolbar at the top and select advanaced
settings from the drop-down menu. On the first tab there should be a sub-window called connections, make sure
that the network adapter titled "Hamachi" is at the very top of that list, if it's not use the up arrow to move it up.
- After that has completed click okay, if it asks you to restart your computer say no, now right-click the "Hamachi"
network adapter that's in the main window of the network connections screen and go to properties. Scroll down the
"This connection uses the following items:" list until you see Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), highlight this protocol and click
properties underneath it to the right.
- In the new properties window select advanced at the bottom and un-select the "Automatic Metric" near the bottom
of the next screen. Where it says Interface Metric, type the number 10 and then click OK. Click OK once more and then
finally click Close. The computer should prompt you for another restart now, select Yes and you're done.
If this still doesn't work after following these steps try Googling around for patches like LAN fixes for the game you are
trying to play, or if it's even possible to play the game over Hamachi at all. One known game that needs a LAN fix is
Call of Duty: World at War.
